Smart Ration Card in Tamil Nadu

There are four types of Smart Ration Cards available for the residents of Tamil Nadu, which are mentioned below:

1. Light green card: This card is valid for the purchase of rice from Fair Price Shops.

1. White card: The beneficiaries can purchase an additional 3 kg of rice over the prescribed amount using this card.

1. Khaki card: As long as the police personnel hold a rank of inspector or higher they can use this card.

1. No commodity card: People who cannot draw any commodities from ration bags are issued with this card.

How to Download Smart Ration Card?

To download the Smart Ration Card, follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Visit the official website of TNPDS

1. Click on the beneficiary tab

1. Enter your registered mobile number and request an OTP (On Time Password)

1. Enter the OTP

1. Your profile will open and then click on the Smart Card print option to take a printout

1. Save a copy of the Smart Card as a PDF on your phone so that you can show it to shopkeepers when required.

How to Apply for a Smart Ration Card?

To apply for a Smart Ration Card, you must:

1. Visit the official website of Tamil Nadu Public Distribution System  (http://www.tnpds.gov.in.)

1. Select your preferred language. 

1. Under the Smart Card Application Services section, Click on the "Smart Card Application" option.

1. The application form will open after selecting the option.

1. Enter all the required details.

1. Upload a photo of the head of the family in png, gif, jpeg, or jpg format.

1. Upload a residence proof document in png, gif, jpeg, or pdf format.

1. Ensure the file size of the photo of the heady of family is under 10 KB and that of residence proof document below 100 KB.

1. Click on the "Submit" button after entering and uploading the required documents.

1. You will receive a reference number after submission of the form, which can be used to check the status of your ration card.

How to Convert to a Smart Ration Card?

The Government of Tamil Nadu has introduced a scheme named Smart Family Card Scheme under which all ration cards can be converted into smart ration cards. You need to follow the given steps to apply for a smart ration card. Once your application gets approved, you will be receiving a PIN which you have to show to the nearest distributor center to receive the smart ration card.

Step 1 - Visit the official site.

Step 2 - Choose your preferred language (English or Tamil).

Step 3 - Under the ‘Smart Card Application Services’, click on the ‘Apply New Smart Card’.

Step 4 - You will be redirected to a new page where you need to enter all your details.

Step 5 - Next, upload the recent photograph of the head of the family. The image size should be under 10 KB.

Step 6 - Now, choose the ‘Card Selection’ type.

Step 7 - Select the type of residential proof that you want to upload.

Step 8 - Upload the scanned copy of the residential proof.

Step 9 - Acknowledge the ‘Confirmation’ statement and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Step 10 - Once you have submitted the form, you will be receiving the reference number which can be used to track the application.

How to Update Smart Ration Card Details?

Here are the steps to update a smart ration card:

1. Visit the official website of the Tamil Nadu Public Distribution System (http://www.tnpds.gov.in).

1. Select the preferred language.

1. Under the "Correct Your Smart Card" section, click on the "Correction of Details" option.

1. To access the correction form, provide your registered mobile number.

1. Beneficiaries will receive an OTP that will be sent to your registered mobile number.

1. Enter OTP to make the required changes.

1. Upload a photograph of the head of the family in png, gif, jpeg, or jpg format, ensuring the file size is under 10 KB.

1. Click "Submit”, after filling in all the details.

1. A reference number will be generated on submitting the form which can be used to track the status of the ration card.

• Go to the ‘Citizen Login’ section.
• Click on ‘Smart Card Details Edit’ option.
• Click on ‘Edit’ to change the name.
