State Bank of India (SBI) FASTag is a reloadable, rechargeable, and efficient tag that enables Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) at toll plazas along India’s national roads. The FASTag can be purchased from more than 28,500 Point of Sale (PoS) terminals present or online through the bank's website.

SBI FASTag is a device that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) software that allows toll payments to be made directly from a prepaid account or a related savings account to the toll plaza. The FASTag chip is attached to your vehicle’s windscreen and the FASTag reader scans the chip to make the payment.

SBI FASTag can be conveniently bought from the websites of SBI bank and other banks such as ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Paytm Payments Banks, HDFC Bank, IDFC First Bank and also from Amazon.

How to Purchase SBI FASTag?

Online 

The process that must be followed to purchase the SBI FASTag online is given below: 

  1. Visit the nearest POS counter and submit the relevant documents. The vehicle must be taken when you visit the counter. 
  2. In order to create the SBI FASTag account, the application form must be filled and submitted. The FASTag will be fixed on the car. 
  3. An SMS will be sent to your registered mobile number with the username and password. You can visit https://fastag.bank.sbi and enter the relevant details to manage the account.

Offline 

In case you wish to purchase an SBI FASTag offline, you will need to visit a Point of Sale (POS) counter. Apart from a POS counter, you can visit the bank branch to purchase the tag. Relevant KYC documents and vehicle documents must be carried when you visit the bank branch or POS counter.

Things to Remember While Applying for SBI FASTag

The following are a set of things that you need to remember at the time of applying for a FASTag account:

  1. Ensure that the windshield glass is clean and dry from inside before applying for the SBI FASTag. Make sure there is no UV protection film screen on your car glass
  2. Make sure your limited KYC account is converted into full KYC account within 24 months from the date of applying for FASTag account
  3. Do not use chemical on SBI FASTag while cleaning the wind shield as it may damage the chip within
  4. Do not share your SBI FASTag log in and password with anyone
  5. If the FASTag reader fails to read the tag on your car windshield for the first time, make sure you move forwards and backwards for the reader to scan your FASTag
  6. Always maintain adequate balance in SBI FASTag
  7. Do not peel off the tags pasted on the windscreen unless it is necessary
  8. Lodge any toll transaction related complaint, if any, within 30 days from the date of transactions

    Get in touch with the issuer agency/bank and report the issue. You will be advised to pay the toll charge in cash if your tag isn't working. The helpdesk will escalate the matter to the respective channel regarding the dispute.

    You will have to lodge an FIR with the local police if the FASTag was lost or stolen along with the vehicle. Report the incident to the customer care centre of the bank. The bank will block the tag in order to prevent misuse of the tag.

    You must submit a written request for surrender or cancellation of the tag and handover the tag to the bank. In the event of the demise of the tag holder, the heir can claim the security deposit.

    You can contact SBI FASTag customer care about the incorrect deductions and the bank will review your request and revert the deduction if ded. The bank will raise a query to the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) to address double deductions for single use.

    You can register your grievance with the concerned Project Director at the respective toll plaza. You can also report the incident via email to etc.nodal@ihmcl.com.

  • How do I get concessions for local vehicles?

    If you reside within 10 km of a toll plaza, you can purchase a FASTag to avail of the concessions available for local vehicles. You will have to submit address proof at the POS location of the issuing agency/bank.

  • How to get a replacement for a damaged tag?

    You can request the bank to issue a new tag and the balance amount in the old tag account will be transferred to the new tag account.

  • How to avail of the monthly pass?

    Visit the POS station of your FASTag-issuing bank and request a monthly pass. It will be linked to your tag and valid only for a specific toll plaza.

  • What is the validity of SBI FASTag?

    The tag has unlimited validity, but the sticker comes with a 3-year guarantee. If the tag wears out or becomes unreadable, contact SBI FASTag customer care for a replacement.

  • What should I do if my SBI FASTag is debited twice at the toll plaza?

    In case your SBI FASTag is debited twice at the toll plaza then contact customer care to raise a query with the NPCI system.

  • What can I do if my FASTag account balance goes below the minimum required balance in the tag?

    Either use online services i.e. internet banking or the customer portal provided by the bank or at the point-of-sale location of SBI, to top up the FASTag wallet in case the FASTag account balance goes below the minimum required balance in the tag.
