Form 29 – How to Download & Fill the Form

If you are selling off your vehicle, you need to transfer the vehicle's ownership to the buyer's name. To do so, you will have to submit Form 29 to the Regional Transport Office. Form 29 asserts that the vehicle owner has submitted all the related documents.

How to Fill in Form 29?

RTO Form 29 is divided into two parts. The first part consists of the original vehicle owner's personal details and the second part consists of the new vehicle buyer's details. In the concluding section of the form, there is an official endorsement that is signed by the Registering Authority.

  1. At the beginning of the form, you need to write the Registering Authority's name under whose jurisdiction transferee resides.
  2. Next, you need to write your name and address as written on the attached identity proof.
  3. You also need to mention the date on which you sold or delivered your vehicle to the buyer. Do mention the make, vehicle number, and chassis number.
  4. In case you have a battery-operated vehicle, you will have to mention the motor and engine in the next space.
  5. Write the buyer's name and his father's name. Next, write the buyer's address as mentioned on the proof attached to the form.
  6. In case your vehicle was under lease, hire-purchase or hypothecation agreement, write the financer's name in the next space.
  7. You also need to handover the vehicle's insurance certificate and registration certificate to the buyer while selling the vehicle. You also need to declare that the vehicle is free from all encumbrances.
  8. In the concluding part, you need to sign the form or put a thumb impression along with the date.
  9. Below this, the financer will sign the form and give his consent for ownership transfer.
  10. Next, mention the name of the Registering Authority under whose jurisdiction the applicant resides to send an acknowledgement of this document through registered post.
  11. The Registering Authority validates this application by entering the reference number, date, and name of the RTO Office. They also declare that the ownership of the automobile got transferred to the buyer.
  12. At the concluding part of the form, the representative of the Registering Authority affixes his signature, official seal and the date. Finally, the name of the transferor gets mentioned as the RTO sends an acknowledgment through a Registered post.

How to Transfer Ownership of Vehicle?

In case the vehicle has been sold, passed on to another citizen, please follow the below steps for transfer of ownership

Step 1: Visit https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/vahanservice/vahan/

Step 2: Enter your Vehicle Registration No.

Step 3: Click on 'Proceed'

Step 4: Select the 'Basic Services' Option

Step 5: Enter the last 5 Digits of chassis no. and click on 'Validate Registration no/Chassis no'

Step 6: Generate OTP, enter correct OTP and submit

Step 7: Select 'Transfer of Ownership'

Step 8: Enter 'Service Details'

Step 9: Update 'Insurance Details'

Step 10: Review Fee Panel and Proceed

Step 11: Pay fee, as shown

Step 12: Upload the document (if required)

Step 13: Take Appointment

Step 14: Receipt Generated

Step 15: After this, the application will be moved to RTO for further processing
