The appointment booking system automatically assigns slots based on availability at desired Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs). Payment for passport services is mandatory prior to booking appointments, facilitated by the Online Payment feature on the Passport Seva Online Portal.

Applicants can cancel or reschedule appointments twice within a year of the initial appointment. For further bookings for the same Application Registration Number (ARN) are restricted.   

How to Book Passport Appointment Online 

Follow the steps below to book an online appointment for passport application:   

Step 1: Go to the Passport Seva website, the government agency responsible for passport issuance in India. 

Step 2: If you are a new user, click on ‘New User Register’ to create an account. If you already have an account, log in with your user ID and password. 

Step 3: Once logged in, click on ‘Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport’. 

Step 4: Provide all necessary personal information, address details, and other passport-related information. 

Step 5: Select your preferred passport office and choose a date and time for your appointment. 

Step 6: Pay the passport application fee using one of the available payment methods. 

Step 7: After a successful booking, you will receive a confirmation email or SMS with your appointment details. 

Step 8: On the appointed day, bring all required documents, including your application form, proof of identity, proof of address, and any other relevant documents 

Different Online Payment Modes for Passport Appointments 

Booking an appointment for passport services now requires prior payment of the applicable fee, which can be conveniently done online. Here Is a step-by-step guide to the appointment booking process along with online payment options: 

1. Online Payment Modes: 

  1. Internet Banking: Available through SBI and associated bank accounts. 
  2. Debit Card: Visa and MasterCard only. 
  3. Credit Card: Visa and MasterCard only. 

2. Internet Banking Payment: 

The following steps summarize how to book an online passport appointment via Internet Banking:  

Step 1: Register and create a User ID on the Passport Seva Online Portal. 

Step 2: Log in with the registered User ID. 

Step 3: Select the desired service under the Services section. 

Step 4: Generate an ARN by filling in the form online or uploading an e-Form. 

Step 5: Schedule an appointment and click the Pay and Schedule Appointment link. If payment hasn't been made, choose Online Payment. 

Step 6: Select Online Payment and proceed to the next screen. 

Step 7: Choose the appointment quota (Normal/Tatkaal) and the preferred Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). 

Step 8: Verify details and click Pay and Book Appointment to proceed to SBI’s Multi Option Payment System (MOPS) website. 

Step 9: Select NET BANKING and log in to make the payment. 

Step 10: After successful payment, you'll be redirected to the Passport Seva Online Portal. The Appointment Confirmation screen will display appointment details, and you can print the Appointment Receipt. 

Payment via Credit or Debit Card for Passport Appointment

Follow the step-by-step guide given below to book your passport appointment using Credit or Debit card:  

Step 1: Start by registering and creating a User ID on the Passport Seva Online Portal. 

Step 2: After logging in with your registered User ID, navigate to the Services section. 

Step 3: Generate an ARN by completing the online form or uploading an e-Form. 

Step 4: Proceed to schedule an appointment and click on the ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ link. 

Step 5: Select Online Payment and advance to the next screen. 

Step 6: Choose the appointment quota (Normal/Tatkaal) and select your preferred Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). 

Step 7: Verify the details and click ‘Pay and Book Appointment’ to proceed to the SBI’s Multi Option Payment System (MOPS) website. 

Step 8: Select ‘CARD PAYMENTS’ as the preferred mode of payment. 

Step 9: Provide the necessary card details as instructed. Upon successful payment, you will be redirected to the Passport Seva Online Portal. The Appointment Confirmation screen will then display your appointment details. 

How to Track Passport Appointment Availability Status 

To check appointment availability for passport services, you need to follow these steps: 

Step 1: Visit the Passport Seva Online Portal and go to the ‘Appointment Availability’ section. 

Step 2: Select your preferred ‘Passport Office’ from the dropdown menu. 

Step 3: Enter the characters displayed in the Captcha field for verification.  Optionally, you can change the picture displayed or listen to an audio captcha for accessibility.

Step 4: After completing the captcha verification, click on the ‘Submit’ button to proceed. The system will then display available appointment slots based on the selected Passport Office. 

Step 5: Note that appointment slots may become available due to cancellations or rescheduling by other applicants. These freed slots are released daily at a fixed time, usually coinciding with the opening of Tatkaal appointments. 

Step 6: You can check the Passport Seva Portal regularly for newly available appointment slots and book appointments as per your preference. 

How to Cancel/Reschedule Passport Appointment 

By following the steps given below, you can efficiently cancel or reschedule a booked appointment on the Passport Seva Online Portal. 

Step 1: Click the ‘Schedule Appointment’ link on the ‘View Saved/Submitted Applications’ screen. 

Step 2: Next, select ‘Reschedule Appointment’ or ‘Cancel Appointment’ button. A confirmation message will appear, indicating the remaining count of rescheduled/cancelled attempts. 

Step 3: If you are rescheduling the appointment, select your preferred Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and click ‘Next.’ 

Step 4: Check the available appointment date displayed for the selected PSK, then click the ‘Book Appointment’ button. This action will automatically book a new appointment for the chosen PSK and cancel the previously booked appointment for the ARN. 

Step 5: Finally, the Appointment Confirmation screen will appear, providing the option to print the application receipt with the ‘Print Application Receipt’ button. 

How to Track Passport Application Status 

To track the status of your application, follow these steps: 

Step 1: Visit the Passport Seva Online Portal and navigate to the ‘Track Application Status’ section. 

Step 2: Select the appropriate "Application Type" from the dropdown menu. This could include options like ‘Fresh Passport’, ‘Re-issue of Passport,’ etc. 

Step 3: Enter your ‘File Number’ in the designated field. This number is typically provided to you upon submission of your application. 

Step 4: Input your ‘Date of Birth’ in the specified format. Complete any other mandatory fields indicated by asterisks (*) on the form. 

Step 5: After filling in all the required information, click on the ‘Submit’ or ‘Track’ button to proceed.  

Step 6: The system will then display the status of your application, providing details such as whether it's under review, pending, or completed. Review the information displayed on the screen to track the progress of your application. 

Documents Required for Booking Passport Appointment

To apply for a new passport online, you will need to prepare the following documents for your passport appointment: 

  • Nationality Proof: Any document that proves your nationality, such as a birth certificate, citizenship certificate, or voter ID card. 
  • Identity Proof with Photograph: A government-issued identity document with a clear photograph, such as a driver's license, Aadhar card, PAN card, or voter ID card. 
  • Passport Size Photographs: Recent passport-sized photographs with specific dimensions as per the guidelines provided by the passport issuing authority.
