Indigenous Faith Day | 1 December 2025 | Monday |
Arunachal has a population of roughly 10 million people, distributed across 16 districts and 3,649 villages. The state is home to the greatest diversity of ethnic tribal groupings and subgroups—more than a hundred in number—in the entire world, each speaking its own language and accent. This day is meant to highlight and honour the great diversity of these tribes, many of which also follow an indigenous religion.
Although the majority of people in the state practise Christianity (30%) and Hinduism (29%), approximately 25% of them—mostly local Tani people—practice an indigenous religion known as "Donyi-Polo" (Sun-Moon).
For its pure beauty and verdant woodlands, it is renowned across the world. Another name for Arunachal Pradesh is "Land of the Rising Sun." River rafting and paragliding are only a couple of the entertaining activities available.
Apong, also known as rice beer, is a widely consumed alcoholic beverage in the region and is produced from fermented rice or millet. There are numerous flavours and varieties of rice beer. With fish, "lukter" (beef dusted with chilli flakes), bamboo shoots, and green vegetables, rice is the main dish.
Shawls, wraps, and skirts are the state's traditional attire. Adi, Aka, Galo, Nyishi, Bori, Apatani, Bokar, and Tangsa are some of the most important tribes in Arunachal Pradesh, and each of them has its own distinctive cultural clothing.
