The following are the list of holidays in February 2025:

  1. Guru Ravidas Birthday: The birthday of Guru Ravidas, who was a poet and 'mystic' born in Uttar Pradesh, is celebrated on a full moon day during the month of Magh. It is mainly observed in the state of Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab.
  2. Lui-Ngai-Ni: This is a seed-sowing festival. The festival marks the start of the year for the Naga people. During the festival, many Naga tribes converge at one designated place and showcase their rich cultural heritage. After Hornbill festival, it is the second major inter-tribe Naga festival.
  3. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti: The holiday is in honour of great Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who was born on this day. The day is celebrated with a lot of fervour. People take out several processions on the occasion and dress up like the great ruler.
  4. Arunachal Statehood Day: The day is celebrated to mark Arunachal Pradesh becoming a state of the country. On the day, huge celebrations take place in the state. As part of the festival, the national flag in unfurled by the Governor who then takes the salute from the Guards of Honour. State awards, Chief minister's Excellence award in Civil Service, and Dorjee Khandu Memorial Award are also awarded on the day.
  5. Mizoram State Day: The day marks Mizoram becoming the 23rd state of the country. Huge celebrations take place in the state on this day.
  6. Vasant Panchami: A Hindu festival, Vasant Panchami highlights the incoming of spring. The festival is centred on the Hindu goddess Sarasvati. As part of the festival, people dress in yellow and feast on 'kesar halwa' which is made of flour, sugar, nuts, and cardamom powder. Students place their books, pens, and pencils near the feet of the goddess and seek her blessings.
  7. Hazrat Ali's Birthday: The day commemorates the birth of Hazrat Ali, the fourth successor of Muhammad. He is considered to be the first Muslim as he is believed to be the first man to have accepted Islam.
  8. Maha Shivaratri: Maha Shivaratri or "The Great Night of Shiva," is a festival honoring Lord Shiva where the main pujas take place either in the evening or spanning the entire night. It marks several significant events, that includes Shiva's wedding to Parvati, which is significant for married couples. Dance of Bliss is performed by Shiva as Nataraja on this night, symbolizing the universe's cyclical nature. According to the Linga Purana, Shiva also took the form of the Lingam, a boundless column of light, representing his infinite existence.
  1. Losar: Losar, Tibetan New Year, which is a significant festival of Tibetan Buddhist community that marks the beginning of lunar new year in Tibetan calendar. The history of Losar dates back to pre-Buddhist Bon tradition in Tibet and the festival intertwined with Buddhist rituals with the spread of Buddhism. The festival includes various cultural performances such as dance and music, rituals, prayers, and feasting. The festival is celebrated in various regions such as Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh.

Madhya Pradesh Announces Two Public Holidays in February 2025

The Madhya Pradesh government has declared two public holidays in February 2025, both falling on Wednesdays. Sant Ravidas Jayanti will be observed on 12 February 2025, while 26 February 2025 has been designated as a holiday for Maha Shivratri. On these days, schools, colleges, banks, and government offices will remain closed. Additionally, employees can avail up to three days of leave from a list of 68 optional holidays announced for the year.
