Government declares a School Holiday in Puducherry on 8 January 2024 due to intense rainfall

The rain, intensifying on Monday morning, caused waterlogging in various parts of the town and suburban areas. Reports included waterlogging in specific locations and minor inundation in residential areas. People commuting to offices faced challenges navigating water-logged roads. The region received around 12 cm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, and officials, including the Lt. Governor and Chief Minister, inspected affected areas. The Minister for Agriculture assessed the impact on crops, assuring farmers of addressing complaints. Two cars overturned, but occupants escaped unhurt, attributed to the wet surface and speeding.
