The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts an examination to recruit Probationary Officers (PO). The IBPS PO test is divided into three stages: the preliminary exam, the main exam, and the interview round. The patterns for each of the tests change as they progress.
Candidates have a total of one hour to complete the IBPS PO preliminary test, which will be conducted online.
The test consists of three sections with a total of 100 questions. The maximum score a candidate can secure is 100. There is a negative marking in the preliminary exam and 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer. It is mandatory for the candidate to clear the cut-off marks in all the three sections to qualify for the IBPS PO Main exam.

The IBPO Mains exam is conducted for a total duration of three hours and 30 minutes and a total mark of 225. The exam is conducted in either in English or in Hindi apart from the English language and Letter and essay writing sections. Candidates who have cleared the cut-off for the main exams are qualified for the last round for an interview. The interview process will constitute of 100 marks and the minimum marks for qualifying in the interview round is 40% for the general category and 35% for candidates belonging to the SC/ST/OBC/PWD categories.

The IBPS PO exam for is set to be conducted in the last quarter of the calendar year. The preliminary exam was conducted in October 2024. The mains exam will be held during the month of November.
Yes, there is a negative marking for the IBPS PO in both the preliminary and main exams. 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer, hence if you answer four questions wrongly a total of 1 mark is deducted.
