Eligibility Criteria for Bank PO exam:

There are certain eligibility criteria which have to be met in order to appear for a Bank PO exam. Although the criteria may vary from bank to bank, listed below are some of the common criteria which must be met, irrespective of the banks, are as follows:

  1. The applicant must be between 20 and 30 years. However, the age limit might differ based on the bank’s requirement 
  1. The applicant must be an Indian national 
  1. The applicant must have a graduation degree from a recognised university 
  1. The age bracket mentioned above is applicable to applicants belonging to the General category only. An age relaxation of 3 years is applicable for applicants belonging to OBC category. On the other hand, applicants belonging to SC or ST category will get an age relaxation of 5 years.

Eligibility Criteria for other Nationality Individuals:

** The nationality or citizenship of the applicant who appears for the IBPS CWE or Bank PO examination can be one of the following:

  1. Indian
  2. A subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  3. A Tibetan refugee who entered India for permanent settlement before 1 January 1962
  4. Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who has migrated from Pakistan, Vietnam, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, or one of the listed East African countries.

Note – The individuals belonging to the above-mentioned categories and who wish to appear for the Bank PO exam must apply for the certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India 

Bank PO Job Profile

The job description or job profile of a Probationary Officer (PO) in a bank consist of a number of duties. Some of these duties can be listed as follows:

  • The Bank PO will be responsible for handling public relations, customer's complaints, and most other issues in regard to customer satisfaction.
  • He or she will be responsible for managerial work such as supervising the clerical staff of the branch office.
  • A Bank PO will also have to manage the cash flow, loans, finances, and mortgages.
  • He or she will be responsible for taking care of the documents related to loans as well (if required).

In the Bank PO selection process, an applicant will be required to go through 3 phases. They are as follows:

Bank PO Exam Syllabus

Since the Bank PO exam is held in 2 stages - preliminary and mains, the syllabus for Bank PO exam can be summed up as follows:

  • Syllabus for Preliminary Exam: English language, reasoning ability, and numerical ability
  • Syllabus for Mains Exam: General reasoning, computer aptitude, English language, general economy, banking awareness, and data analysis and interpretation.

Bank PO Exam Pattern 

The conducting body sets the bank PO exam pattern for respective bank exams. The exam pattern is subject to change, and the conducting body reserves the right to change the Bank PO exam pattern as per its convenience. 

The standard exam pattern that is followed by most banks for Bank PO recruitment involves the following steps: 

  • Preliminary Examination 
  • Mains Examination 
  • Interview 
  • Group Discussion (only SBI PO) 

The preliminary exam in most Bank PO exams is only the qualifying exam and the marks secured in the main examination are counted to calculate the merit, along with the interview marks.  

Bank PO Exam Application Fee

The application fees for Bank PO examination are as follows:

  1. For SC, ST, and other backward classes it is Rs.175 only.
  2. For General category and other categories, it is Rs.850 only.

    A: The position of a Bank PO is that of an assistant manager in the branch office where he or she is posted. A Bank PO will have a probationary period and during this period, he or she might be asked to do any job - both clerical and managerial.
