Top RuPay Credit Cards – Features, Benefits, and Offers

A RuPay Card is a debit or credit card issued by banks in India through the RuPay payment network, a domestic initiative coined from 'Rupee' and 'Payment.' Similar to Visa and Mastercard, RuPay is a payment processing network rather than a card itself, facilitating electronic transactions.

What is a RuPay Credit Card?

A RuPay Credit Card is a payment card issued by banks in India on the RuPay network, which is India's domestic card payment network. RuPay Credit Cards allow cardholders to attempt to pay for goods and services with merchants without paying for it right away with their own money.

Uses of a RuPay Credit Card include:

  1. ATM Withdrawals: There is a limit set by the bank for card holders to withdraw cash from ATMs if needed.
  1. Point of Sale Shopping: Cardholders can make payments directly at retail stores with each transaction.
  1. Online Shopping: Cardholders can utilize the card for e-commerce transactions through websites, apps, etc.
  1. Installment Payments: Some merchants and banks allow the customer to convert their purchases into payment terms known as Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) payments. Again, this spreads a potentially high-value item into multiple payments, making it potentially easier to purchase.

How Does a RuPay Card Work?

A RuPay card offers customers enhanced security in the form of an embedded EMV chip enabling high-value transactions to be done with complete protection. Additionally, RuPay cards also carry an inbuilt microprocessor circuit containing information about the card owner.

A RuPay card is a payment card that enables customers to conduct secure electronic transactions. These secure transactions are made possible by an EMV chip that resides within the card. The EMV chip not only protects consumers from fraudulent transactions, but it also contains a microprocessor that stores certain information about the cardholder.

When a cardholder swipes their RuPay card at a PoS merchant terminal, the merchant receives payment for the transaction on behalf of the cardholder by their bank. The cardholder is then required by their bank to pay their monthly statement balance as a complete balance due or for an EMIs payment.
