A RuPay card offers customers enhanced security in the form of an embedded EMV chip enabling high-value transactions to be done with complete protection. Additionally, RuPay cards also carry an inbuilt microprocessor circuit containing information about the card owner.
A RuPay card is a payment card that enables customers to conduct secure electronic transactions. These secure transactions are made possible by an EMV chip that resides within the card. The EMV chip not only protects consumers from fraudulent transactions, but it also contains a microprocessor that stores certain information about the cardholder.
When a cardholder swipes their RuPay card at a PoS merchant terminal, the merchant receives payment for the transaction on behalf of the cardholder by their bank. The cardholder is then required by their bank to pay their monthly statement balance as a complete balance due or for an EMIs payment.
In order to promote the use of UPI, RBI has proposed the linking of credit cards to UPI. RuPay credit card holders will be able to link their accounts with UPI and begin making transactions. With this facility, customers will get more options to make UPI payments conveniently. This arrangement will not be operational until the team finishes the necessary system development.
