How to Get Duplicate NSC Certificate

The National Savings Scheme or NSC is a popular savings instrument in India. The scheme, which is backed by the government, gives assured returns to subscribers at a  interest rate of 7.7% p.a. The scheme is the preferred choice of a multitude of subscribers who want to ensure their long term savings goals are met and they will have a comfortable retirement.

On enrolment under NSC scheme, the depositor will receive a certificate denoting the details of the investment as well as other relevant data. This certificate needs to be produced on maturity or when the subscriber wants to withdraw the funds lying under his/her deposits.

In case the original certificate is lost, destroyed, stolen, defaced or mutilated, the depositor should apply for a duplicate certificate at the earliest or before maturity to ensure that they can receive the funds without any problems.

Process for applying for duplicate NSC certificate

The following steps can be followed to get a duplicate NSC certificate:

  1. Complete the application form and submit the same at the nearest Post Office branch. If the nearest branch is not the branch where the original certificate was issued, the application will be forwarded to the original branch by the new branch itself.
  2. The application form has to be accompanied by a statement that includes information like name, amount, account number and date of issuance, as well as the reason for new certificate.
  3. On submission of the application and statement, your application will be processed by the officer in charge of the Post Office. You also need to submit an indemnity bond along with one or more sureties or bank guarantee.
