The Aadhaar card initiative, launched by the Indian government, aims to provide each Indian citizen and non-resident Indian with a unique number. The Unique Identification Authority of India, or UIDAI, has been given permission by the Indian government to handle the entire Aadhaar card issuing process. Additionally, services like mobile numbers, bank accounts, LPG, etc., may be linked to an Aadhaar number.
