Thirty-eight nationalities will now be able to enter Sri Lanka without a visa, the country announces

Due to management concerns with an international consortium, Sri Lanka suspended its e-Visa system one month ago. Since then, the country has been providing visas to foreign visitors when they arrive.

The nation will start providing free visas to visitors from 35 nations on October 1, 2024, to expedite entry procedures and draw in more tourists.

Inspired by Singapore's streamlined 'one-chop' method, Ali Sabry, Sri Lanka's Minister of Foreign Affairs, declared on X (previously Twitter) on Monday, September 2, that the President now has the power to grant visa-free access to 38 nations instantaneously.

This move, according to Ali Sabry, will lessen line-ups at the visa counters.

The 35 countries from the previous statement that would be eligible for the free visa program were not specified by the Sri Lankan government, even though they affirmed that 38 nationalities would be exempt from the need.

Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States were among the 35 countries that were initially listed.
