  The e-Tourist Visa facility for India is now available for citizens from 166 countries. Some of the countries eligible for the e-Tourist Visa include:  

Eligibility Criteria for E‑Tourist Visa

1. International travelers who plan to visit India for sightseeing, recreation, meeting friends and relatives, casual visit, business visit or medical treatment for short duration.
2. The passport must have validity of at least six months from arrival date in India. There should be two blank pages in the passport so that the immigration officer can stamp there.
3. The international travelers must have onward journey or return ticket along with sufficient money for the stay in India.
4. International traveler who are of Pakistani origin or have Pakistani passport are not eligible for e-Visa.
5. An individual must not hold any official and diplomatic passports. 
6. Every individual must have a separate passport. The Visa cannot be availed by people who re endorsed on the passports of spouse or parent.
   

How to Apply for an E-Tourist Visa

By following the given below steps, you can easily apply for an e-tourist visa: 

• Visit the official portal of Government of India e‑Visa. 
• Fill in the e-Visa application form.
•  Upload the digital photograph and passport.
• Pay the required fees by using a credit card, debit card or payment wallet.
•  You will get your Electronic Travel Authorization/ETA in your e-mail.

Documents Required for Indian E-Tourist Visa 

The following documents are required for applying e-Tourist Visa: 

1. Scanned photo of the passport page that has your picture and personal info 

1. A copy of letter from the institute or organization (on letterhead) for short-term courses 

1. A copy of letter from the organization (on letterhead) for short-term voluntary work 

Requirement of the Digital Photograph for Tourist e-Visa 

To successfully apply for the Indian Tourist e-Visa, you must upload a recent digital photograph that meets the following guidelines: 

1. The photograph must be in JPEG format. 

1. The file size should be between 10 KB and 1 MB. 

1. The photo must have equal height and width (a square shape). 

1. The head should be centered 

1. The background should be plain and light-colored or white. 

1. There should be no shadows on the face or in the background. 

1. The photo must be without any borders. 

1. Your full face must be clearly visible, facing forward with eyes open and no spectacles.

E-Tourist Visa Fees

1. The fee for  e-Tourist Visa is USD 25  per passenger. This fee is excluding interchange charge for debit cards and credit cards. The payment of the fee must be made four days prior to the travel. If not, the application will not be processed.
2. The fee for e-Tourist Visa is non-refundable. This suggests that it does not depend on rejection or grant of visa. Either way, you will have to pay the fee and once you pay it you cannot get it back.
   

E-Tourist Visa Instructions

The e-Tourist Visa allows travelers from many countries to apply online for a short visit to India. An individual needs to follow the given below instructions for better application process: 

1. All the application from various countries can apply online for  e-Tourist Visa. The application can be made four days in advance from the arrival date. For example, if you wish to travel between 5th November and 4th December, you can apply on 1st November.
   
2. During the time of travel, applicant must have a copy of e-Tourist Visa.
3. At Immigration, the applicant's biometric details will be captured after arriving in India.
4. From the arrival date, the visa will remain valid for a period of 30 days.
5. There are nine designated airports via which e-Tourist Visa entry is authorized. They are Trivandrum, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Goa and Cochin.
6. The e-Tourist Visa is allowed twice per calendar year.

Validity Period for Indian Tourist e-Visas 

Each type of Indian Tourist e-Visa comes with a specific validity period, calculated from the date of issuance. Here’s an overview of the validity for each: 

A 30-day Tourist Visa

1. It allows double entry, meaning you can visit India twice. 
2. This visa cannot be extended and converted. 

1. It is valid for 30 days from the date of issue. 

1. Example: If your visa is issued on 15 January 2024, it will remain valid until 15 February 2024. 

One-year Tourist Visa

1. A multiple-entry visa is valid for one year from the date of issue. 

1. You must leave India before the visa expires. 

Five-year Tourist Visa

1. Multiple-entry visa is valid for five years from the date of issue. 

1. Similar to the one-year visa, you must leave the country before the visa expires. For instance, if issued on 15 January 2024, it will expire on 15 January 2029. 

Note: For both one year and five-year Tourist Visas, the total stay in India should not be more than 180 days in one calendar year.

Understanding Your Tourist Visa Validity 

Here’s how to interpret the key details of your Indian Tourist Visa: 

1. Validity Period: The duration for which your visa is usable. 

1. Maximum Stay: The longest duration you can stay in India per visit. 

1. Expiry Date: Varies depending on your visa type. 

Examples: 

A 30-day Tourist e-Visa

1. If your visa’s expiry date is 14 March 2024, this is the latest date you can enter India. 

1. Once in the country, you can stay for up to 30 days, even if your stay extends beyond the expiry date. 

One-year or Five-year Tourist e-Visa

1. If the expiry date is 14 March 2024, this is the latest date you must leave India. 

1. Your stay must not exceed the allowed maximum stay duration or extend beyond the visa’s validity.
