Price of Gas Raised to $6.75 Per mmBtu in July 2025

In July 2025, the government increased the price of natural gas from the legacy fields of Oil India Ltd. and state-run ONGC from $6.41 to $6.89 per unit (million British thermal units) as the effects of rising oil prices during the Israel-Iran conflict became evident. On Monday, the government said that the real price rise would be limited to 34 cents, or 5%, due to the price cap of $6.75 per unit, which would be the applicable rate starting on 1 July 2025. They can either wait for the next review of gas prices or boost the price of CNG to pass the cost on to customers, as oil prices are predicted to drop in the meantime. Government subsidies won't affect the fertilizer industry.
