New or existing SBI account holders need to activate their new debit cards in order to use them to make transactions smoothly. Continue reading to learn about the steps involved in activating an SBI debit card.
With the YONO SBI App, you can allow international transactions on your SBI debit card. Here is a step-by-step process for the same:
Step 1: Enter your username, password, and MPIN to log in to the YONO SBI app.
Step 2: Under the ‘Quick Links’ section, click on the ‘Service Request’ option.
Step 3: Select the ‘ATM/Debit Card’ option and type your Internet Banking Profile password.
Step 4: Click on the ‘Submit’ option.
Step 5: Click on the ‘Manage Cards’ option.
Step 6: From the drop-down menu, choose the account and debit card.
Step 7: Select the ‘Manage Usage’ option.
Step 8: Enable international use of your debit card by dragging the toggle to the right.
Step 9: An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and click on the ‘Submit’ button.
Step 10: You receive a confirmation SMS after the activation is successful.
If you have not used your SBI debit card for online purchases for a while, the feature may have been deactivated. You can enable online transactions on your SBI debit card using the YONO SBI App or SMS Banking.
YONO SBI:
You can take the same actions as outlined above to activate your SBI ATM Card for online purchases. Toggle the e-commerce transaction option in Step 8 and proceed with the same procedure as before.
SMS Banking:
An SBI debit card can be activated through the SMS banking feature.

Activate SBI Debit Card through Internet Banking
Step 1: Visit www.onlinesbi.com and log into your internet banking account.
Step 2: Navigate to ‘e-Services’ and click on the ‘ATM card services’ option.
Step 3: Select the ‘New ATM Card Activation’ option.
Step 4: Choose the account for which you have requested a new ATM card.
Step 5: Enter your 16-digit ATM card number.
Step 6: Click on the 'Activate' button after entering it once more in the next bar to confirm.
A high-security password will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the high-security password and click on ‘Confirm.’ A message saying ‘ATM card has been activated’ will appear on the screen. Once the card has been activated, can create an ATM PIN.
The 'Green PIN generation' is the procedure for activating an SBI debit card using an ATM. The steps to create a green PIN at an ATM are as follows:
Step 1: Visit the nearest ATM branch and insert/swipe your SBI debit card.
Step 2: Tap on 'Confirm' after entering your 11-digit account number.
Step 3: Enter your registered mobile number and tap on the ‘Confirm’ option.
Step 4: A message indicating that your registered mobile number has received the PIN will be displayed on the screen.
Step 5: You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. This PIN is valid for two days and you can use it to create a new ATM PIN.
To activate your SBI debit card via SMS:
Send ‘PIN <> last 4 digits of your debit card <> last 4 digits of your account number’ to 567676 |
You will receive an OTP which you can use to generate a new ATM PIN by following the previously described steps.
Here is how you can use the SBI YONO App to activate your debit card:
Step 1: Launch the SBI YONO application on your smartphone and log in.
Step 2: Choose 'Service Request' by tapping 'more' in the upper left corner.
Step 3: Choose the ‘ATM/Debit card Services’ option and enter your profile password.
Step 4: Select the ‘ATM/Debit Card Activation’ option and enter your 16-digit ATM card number.
Step 5: Tap on the ‘Next’ option.
Step 6: Enter the OTP that was sent to your registered mobile number.
You can generate a green PIN by calling the IVRS numbers listed below:
Step 1: Dial the customer service numbers listed above.
Step 2: Choose the language of your choice.
Step 3: Press ‘2’ to select the ATM and Prepaid card option.
Step 4: Generate PIN by pressing ‘1’ and enter your 16- or 19-digit ATM card number.
Step 5: Press ‘1’ to verify your ATM number.
Step 6: Type the 11-digit account number that is linked to the ATM.
Step 7: Press ‘1’ to validate your account.
Step 8: You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. This OTP can be used to create a new PIN and it remains valid for two days.
Once you receive the green PIN, you need to create a new ATM PIN within two days. The steps to do this are listed below:
Step 1: Visit the nearest ATM branch and insert/swipe your SBI debit card.
Step 2: Choose the ‘Banking’ option.
Step 3: Enter the OTP you received under the ‘Enter Your PIN’ section.
Step 4: Create a new PIN using the 'PIN Change' option.
First-time users of an SBI debit card need to generate a 4-digit PIN to use the card. Each time you use the debit card for a transaction, you will need to enter the PIN.
To prevent misuse, it is recommended that you keep changing your ATM PIN once every few months.

The SBI OTP remains valid for two days.
There are very few reasons why a debit card won't work once it has been activated.
